WHAT IT IS:

Mnemonica is a customized sampler instrument you can play with a two octave Midi keyboard. All the white keys in the octave below middle C are used to start and stop recording into the 7 discrete samplers. With your right hand, the white keys in the octave beginning at middle C are used to playback captured samples. Transposing, filtering, and attack and decay envelopes are controlled with various other assignable Midi controllers.

WHAT YOU NEED:

At least 1 GHz of modern processing speed and 512 MB of RAM on a Mac OS X or Windows 2000/NT/XP/Vista computer with at least Java 1.4 installed (which should already be installed using a relatively modern OS). You'll also need a Midi keyboard controller with additional programmable faders and knobs. The more controls, the better really.

WHAT YOU SEE:

Very little. This software is for electronic musicians who prefer to be looking at their band-mates, their instruments, or their sheet music while getting their rock on.

The software launches a text console which displays useful information when loading up and when certain settings are changed so you know the software is receiving controller changes but not much else. For example, you should be monitoring for optimal input/output levels on your A/D converter, the sound preferences window, or wherever else your performance setup allows.
